Judge Lacrosse Alumni, Families, Friends and Fans,

The spring lacrosse season is here and your Judge Memorial Catholic Bulldogs Boys Lacrosse Team is back … AND WE NEED YOUR HELP !!!

This is a little long, but we ask you to give it a read and find out what’s new with your Bulldogs.

Last year was the first year that Judge Memorial Catholic HS did not field a team since the fall of 1994 (28 years), but “Boys Lax Is Back” and looking to build upon the strong traditions and foundations that you all laid before us.

This year, we had 40 players tryout in the fall and/or spring and 35 of them commited to be a part of our 2023 teams. 3 Seniors, 3 Juniors, 10 Sophomores, and 19 Freshman. Needless to say, we are young, but the future is incredibly bright as we field our 2 teams (Varsity and JV) this season. We are currently 3-2 on the young season (with a 13-12 OT loss while down 5 starters) and sit as the #2 UHSAA RPI ranked team in the 4A classification.

We kicked off our season on March 3rd by taking the team south and away from the cold and snow to Mesquite Nevada to the Rising Stars Sports Ranch for 3 days of lacrosse practices, pickleball, basketball, swimming, karaoke, team meals, team bonding, etc … and lots of laughs. We came away from camp not only as a tight knit family but with a great dedicated group of captains to lead our team this year: Hank Pratt (Senior – Goalie), Sam Cowen (Junior – Defense), Will Yarrish (Junior – Attack), and Assistant Captain Dylan Krannich (Freshman – Defense)

This season your Judge Bulldogs will play a full 16 game schedule of 8 Home and 8 Away games. The marquee games will be at Skyline (Season Opener March 15th, our first game since May 19, 2021), at Herriman, Westlake, Sky View, Green Canyon (2022 4A State Champions), Jordan (Renewing an old rivalry), and Region opponents and longest running grudge match in Utah lacrosse Waterford (x2) as well as the other Catholic School in-state (x2). Starting next year, we will be taking the program out of state during our Spring Breaks (California, Colorado or maybe the East Coast).

After retiring from Judge after the 2014 season we finally got the Greatest Coach in Utah High School Boys Lacrosse History to walk the McCarthey Stadium sidelines again. “The Legend” Dave Allen special guest coached for 2 weeks during our “coach’s blackout period”. It was like he had never left as he patiently worked with some of our players that have never played before or picked up a stick. The help he gave these players has already begun to pay off in a big way.

Former Judge players and coaches are ALWAYS welcomed to stand on our sidelines during games or drop in on our practices. We have been very fortunate to have many former Bulldogs come back to share their wisdom and passion for Judge lacrosse with the team this year: Dave Allen, Pat Lambert, Drew Searl, Rob Holt, Shawn Lambert, Rick Kladis, Zach Gosselin, James Mutscheller, Grant Pierce, and other Judge Legends have made their way back to our stadium, and we can’t wait to see who comes out next. If you have the coaching bug and want to give back to Judge nation, we are always looking for youth coaches in our steadily growing program. Several already have, like Rick Kladis and Shawn Lambert. We all believe that a great high school program cannot survive and remain great without a strong youth program and the high school is invested in helping make it grow.

The coaching staff that we have assembled to bring the program back is the best in the state. Matt Duke-Rosati (Judge Class of 2008, All-State, Team Captain), Walker Bateman (Highland All-American, the guy everybody in Utah lacrosse knows), Bubba Fairman (Brighton All-American, Maryland National Champion 2022, and PLL Cannons Pro), Sean Edwards (JD State Champion and Westminster College Goalie), Derrick Harris (East Coast born and raised, Syracuse Club) and Sean Zuckerman (One of the original Utah lacrosse families, Toulouse LC)

We have set a lofty fundraising goal for the team of $25,000 … Getting back in the game and starting from scratch has left our accounts in the negative. The money we raise will go to player scholarships, team dinners, team gear bags, balls, goals, and other equipment needed. New gloves, uniforms and helmets for the 2023/24 season (our current gear is 5 years old), coaching stipends, coaches gear, team camp and travel in 2024. We are also now working on bringing back the famous “Judge Lacrosse Golf Tournament” this Fall as we look to re-engage and fire up all of our Judge Alumni this year and beyond.

Financial support is always appreciated, but if you can’t, the program would really like your physical support. We would love to see our alumni players and families packing the stands at home and away games, watching our livestreams (all home games) when you can’t make it in person, and following/liking/commenting on our social media posts. Our 2023 Spring Schedule can be found on this website that we are currently improving daily.
